Art Year 7
What is the Aim of the Year?
Develop knowledge of the formal elements of art focusing particularly on line, shape and tone. Students will investigate working with a range of media in both 2D and 3D.
What are the Big Ideas?
Record – Students will make observational drawings both from real life and from studying inspiring images
Experiment – Students will experiment with a range of media working in 2D and 3D. This may include print-making, paint, collage, cardboard relief and clay.
Develop – Students will develop knowledge of artists and designs such as Fortunato Depero, Paula Ogier and Eygene Seguy.
Present – Students will produce a print-making outcome, investigating layering and perspective. Students will produce a 3D outcome exploring line and detail.

Students will receive regular verbal feedback, which will be recorded by students at the front of their sketchbook.
Students will take part in regular self and peer assessment tasks.

For students to develop knowledge of the colour wheel and Pop Art, focusing particularly on tone and shape.
What are the Big Ideas?
Record – Students will make observational drawings both from real life and from studying inspiring images
Experiment – students will experiment with a range of media including colouring pencils, collage, digital art and paint.
Develop – students will develop knowledge of artists including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Michael Craig-Martin and Shepard Fairey.
Present – students will produce painted outcomes, investigating colour, composition and tone (shadows ad highlights).

What is the Aim of the Year?
For students to develop knowledge of abstraction, art from different cultures and political art. Within these topics students will focus on texture, form and pattern.
What are the Big Ideas?
Record – Students will make observational drawings both from real life and from studying inspiring images
Experiment – students will experiment with a range of media working in 2D and 3D. This may include paint, mixed-media, collage, digital art, papier-mâché and clay.
Develop – students will develop knowledge of artists and cultures including Picasso, African and South American art and Banksy.
Present – students will produce an abstract outcome, a 3D outcome exploring art from another culture and a piece of political art about an issue they feel passionate about.

What is the Aim of the Course?
For students to:
- actively engage in the creative process of art, craft and design in order to develop as
effective and independent learners, and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring

images, artefacts and products

Exam Assessment Details
This course consists of two internally assessed and externally moderated components.
- Component 1: Personal Portfolio (internally set) 60%
- Component 2: Externally Set Assignment 40%

- A02 Refine work by exploring ideas, selecting and experimenting with appropriate media, materials, techniques and processes

What will I Do?
Year 10:
Term 1: Natural Forms
In this project students will focus on making observations of natural forms for example shells, cones, flowers, leaves, fruit and fish. Students will work from direct observation and from their own photographs. They will explore a broad range of materials, techniques and processes. Students will study the work of different artists and designers including Karl Blossfeldt, Georgia O’Keeffe, Ernst Haeckle, Andy Goldsworthy and William Morris. Students will be expected to demonstrate the ability to record their ideas, observations, insights and independent judgements both visually and through informative written annotation, using suitable specialist vocabulary. They will continue to evaluate and their refine work, to produce a personal 2D final outcome.

Term 2: Portraiture
In this project students will focus on learning how to draw portraits and understanding proportion while exploring expression and character. Students will work from first hand observation and from their own photographs and gathered imagery. They will explore a broader range of materials, techniques and processes whilst building on existing skills. Students will understand how digital media can be used to manipulate imagery exploring new possibilities for making art and design. Students will study the work of different artists and designers including David Hockney, Frida Kahlo, Chuck Close, Andy Warhol and Vincent Van Gogh. Students will be expected to demonstrate the ability to record their ideas, observations, insights and independent judgements both visually and through informative written annotation, using suitable specialist vocabulary. They will continue to evaluate and their refine work, to produce a personal 2D final outcome.

Term 3: Distortion
In this project students will focus on abstraction and understanding how Cubist artists use elements broken down into distinct areas or planes, showing different viewpoints at the same time . Students will work from first hand observation and from their own photographs and gathered imagery. They will explore a broader range of materials, techniques and processes whilst building on existing skills. Students will study the work of different artists and designers including Pablo Picasso, Henrietta Harris and Francis Bacon. Students will be expected to demonstrate the ability to record their ideas, observations, insights and independent judgements both visually and through informative written annotation, using suitable specialist vocabulary. They will continue to evaluate and their refine work, to produce a personal final outcome using clay. They will further their understanding of how to work in 3D, experimenting with various tools and techniques and developing knowledge of how to use glazes and oxides.

Year 11:
Term 1: Distortion (continued) and Mock exam
Students will continue with their distortion project from year 10 using their distorted portraits as a starting point to create a series of lino-prints exploring line, colour and pattern.

Mock Exam
Students will be provided with a broad thematic-based starting point with and a range of written and visual suggestions to focus on.
This component allows students the opportunities to:
- develop and explore ideas
- research primary and contextual sources
- experiment with media, materials, techniques and processes
- present personal response(s) to the externally-set theme within the 5 hour exam time
Term 2: Final Exam
Students will be provided with a broad thematic-based starting point with and a range of written and visual suggestions to focus on.
This component allows students the opportunities to:
- develop and explore ideas
- research primary and contextual sources
- experiment with media, materials, techniques and processes
- present personal response(s) to the externally-set theme within the 10 hour exam time
