Drama Year 7
What is the Aim of the Year?
For students to develop core character values and personal qualities by taking part in both lessons and extra-curricular activities. Students will be given the opportunity to work on these qualities as they explore new ideas, theatrical genres and dramatic techniques over the course of the year. By the end of the year students should have developed their understanding of kindness and respect, shown a clear understanding of community within group work, have worked hard to achieve their personal goals and be able to show flexibility to adapt to challenges with positivity, confidence and sensitivity to others.
What are the Big Ideas?
DEVISING
Use Drama to explore a range of themes and texts from a range of genres and time periods.
PERFORMANCE
Develop a range of performance and/or production skills through the realisation of Drama.
EVALUATION
Make critical and evaluative judgements of practical and theoretical aspects of drama and theatre, using appropriate terminology.

Drama Year 8

What is the Aim of the Year?
For students to continue developing core character values and personal qualities by taking part in both lessons and extra-curricular activities, gaining a greater depth of subject knowledge in preparation for GCSE. Students will be given the opportunity to work on these qualities as they explore new ideas, theatrical genres and dramatic techniques over the course of the year. By the end of the year students should have developed their understanding of kindness and respect, shown a clear understanding of community within group work, have worked hard to achieve their personal goals and be able to show flexibility to adapt to challenges with positivity, confidence and sensitivity to others.

What is the Aim of the Course?
To encourage creativity, whilst focusing on practical work reflecting twenty-first century theatre practice. To develop a multitude of transferable skills, including collaboration, communication and an understanding of how to refine work to make a smooth transition to their next level of study or employment. Drama lessons will be heavily practical based, whilst encouraging the exploration of texts and topics through acting, directing and technical design skills.
Exam Assessment Details
There are three units of assessment in GCSE Drama:
Component 1: Devised practical performance examination with accompanying written portfolio, internally assessed (AO1, AO2 & AO4) 40% of GCSE
Component 2: Performance from a text, externally examined (AO2)
20% of GCSE
Component 3: Formal Written Examination (AO3 &AO4) 40% of GCSE
Assessment Objectives:

AO3 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how drama and
theatre is developed and performed.
AO4 Analyse and evaluate their own work and the work of others.
What will I Do?
Year 10:
Term 1:
- Introduction to Drama skills: performance & styles, theatrical design and devised & scripted performance.
- Component 3: Practical exploration and study of one complete performance text from perspective of director, performer and designer.
Term 2:
- Component 3: Practical exploration and study of one complete performance text from perspective of director, performer and designer.
- Component 1: Create and develop a devised piece from stimulus. Practise skills of devising and exploration of variety of theatrical forms. Evaluate process and performance in written portfolio.
Term 3:
- Component 3: Live theatre review after theatre trip. Revision of performance text in preparation for Year 10 PPE
- Component 1: Begin preparation for creation and development of final devised piece from stimulus. Written portfolio notes to be kept throughout process.
Year 11:
Term 1:
- Component 1: Continue creation and development of final devised piece from stimulus leading to devised practical performance examination. Written portfolio notes to be kept throughout process, leading to final written portfolio submission after devised practical performance examination.
- Component 2: Begin rehearsal of performance text extracts in groups. Students may take role of performer or designer.
- Component 3: Revision of performance text in preparation for Year 11 PPE
Term 2:
- Component 2: Continue rehearsal of performance text extracts in groups, leading to formal practical performance examination. Students may take role of performer or designer.
- Component 3: Live theatre review after theatre trip.
Term 3:
- Component 3: Revision of performance text and live theatre review in preparation for final formal written examination.
Internal Assessments
- Year 10, term 1 & 2: formal written exam style essays throughout exploration of performance text for component 3 and practical performance assessments linking to component 2.
- Year 10, term 3: formal written exam for component 3 in Year 10 PPE
- Year 11, term 1: devised practical performance examination for component 1, accompanied by written portfolio submission.
- Year 11, term 2: component 2 formal practical performance mock examination
